Dick Ferguson's Clothing Store has been a mainstay in Athens since 1934. Originally founded on Clayton Street downtown, our store has served as a nexus for communication and social interaction. Football. Politics. Wingtips vs. tassel loafers. You'd hear it all at Ferguson's and still do. Originally founded by his father & mother, Dick Ferguson Jr. took ownership of the store after graduating from The University of Georgia in the early 1960's. Dick navigated the booming Men's clothing store through many decades of fashion changes. Many of our patrons still recall the variety of clothing lines and styles that were stocked on multiple floors of our original Clayton Street store.

Many may also recall The Saxon Shop. Located in basement level of the building, The Saxon Shop was THE place to shop for the College Man of Athens. Red & black repp ties, shell cordovan Loafers, herringbone jackets, oxford cloth shirts, cashmere sweaters and more. In a time where students dressed the part, it paid to be a Ferguson's Man.

Fast forward in to the 70's, and clothing turned to bolder colors, patterns and a more casual sense than ever before. While Ferguson's continued to carry traditional styles, many additions were made with sportswear and the upbeat trends that college students quickly adopted.

What started in 1934 as a quality men's clothing store with personal service hasn't changed much over the past nine decades. Men's style may have altered some, but our dedication to quality apparel and personal service hasn't budged.
